Concierge Medicine for Uninsured People

Paying for my own medical care is expensive. Even so-called low-cost clinics charge me over $100 every time I need help, so when I began seeing Dr. Means at Praxis, I was surprised to learn that $100 a month covered me for every visit. Now my husband, who has medical insurance, uses Praxis, because of the quality of care and the 24/7 availability of the doctor! Good care, too, in our opinion!

Praxis

"Praxis" is German for "practice," so it just means medical practice. Dr. Means also runs Nova Aesthetic Medicine in shared office space. He has a number of degrees in medical practices (from what I've seen on his office wall) and we're comfortable with his knowledge. He's the first doctor I've seen in eight years who nailed heart failure - the others said (in essence), "Lots of women have edema." That's pretty serious, and I'm glad to finally have a diagnosis and treatment, even though I haven't been able to get health insurance. Hope this is helpful.

Praxis

This is a mouthful so bear with me, please. Norman D. Means, M.D. FCAP, is Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Family Medicine and is Fellowship trained in Blood Banking and eligible for Board Certification in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. He is also the Medical and Laboratory Director for the Blood Bank of Alaska. His office, NOVA Aesthetic Medicine, is located in Tudor Med Plaza, just a few blocks down from the Blood Bank on Laurel St. (directly behind Starbucks). Praxis is located within this office and is Dr. Means Private Concierge Medicine Practice. He charges $100/mo period. He schedules hour long visits with his Praxis patients and actually gets to know you. Consultations with Dr. Means about becoming a Praxis patient are free of charge 561-6682.

Hi,
I read your post and it sounds interesting to me,we don't have insurance also, I got laid off and I am working part time only, hubby's job doesn't offer insurance also. $100/month is what they charge? what if you don't often visit in the clinic in a month are you still going to charge for that, how about prescription?

Praxis Medical Arts: $100/month

Hi Ceb,

Dr. Means charges $100/month whether you see him one time or ten times. You have unlimited access. He does not charge extra for writing your prescription. Concierge Medicine is unlike a regular physician's visit where you pay every time you step into the office. But, this is not walk-in care. You cannot come and go and pay only the months you come in to visit with Dr. Means. Concierge Medicine is about building a long-term physician/patient relationship. Your doctor gets to know you, just like your grandparents doctors did a long time ago. This is the way it's supposed to be. How else can a physician really understand your needs? Hope this helps.
